Why I Love MHGU’s Transmog System

Introduction — How Transmog Works in MHGU

In Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, transmog—also known in-game as armor fusion—is woven into the endgame progression. It’s not just a cosmetic feature; it’s a reward loop that blends hunting with style.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Reach G-Rank to unlock the armor fusion system.
  2. Hunt G-Rank quests to earn Horn Coins—the currency required for transmog.
  3. Trade these Horn Coins with the lab’s Felyne (or “meowstress”) for special transmog materials.
  4. Craft the armor piece (even at Level 1) whose appearance you want to mimic.
  5. Fuse that piece’s look onto your functional armor—consuming the original for the aesthetic swap.

1. Horn Coins = Freedom Over My Hunts

Earning Horn Coins doesn’t lock you into a single monster grind—it comes from G-Rank quests in general. So whether I’m in the mood for Tigrex, Zinogre, or something else entirely, each hunt still brings me closer to my stylish goals. It turns the grind into a journey of choice, not a chore.

2. Crafting for Style = Empowered Decisions

You must craft the armor piece you want to look like. That means you deliberately choose which design to chase. Each transmog becomes a mini-goal—fueling more hunts, not because you have to, but because you want to. It’s beauty earned through intention.

3. Transmog Honors the Hunter’s Identity

This system doesn’t skip the hunt—it celebrates it. You hunt, gather, craft, and choose. Every fashion decision is battle-earned—reflecting which monsters you decided to face. That’s what makes this transmog system so compelling: style through substance.
