Why I Don't Support the Palico Project, And You Shouldn't Either (Yet)

The Palico Project wants your money for charity but can't tell you which charity. Here's why I'm not on board - yet.

Why I Don't Support the Palico Project, And You Shouldn't Either (Yet)

The Palico Project recently announced a charity fundraiser running February 13-23, built around Monster Hunter streams. Cool idea. But the more I looked at it, the more it felt off.

The original announcement went up on January 30th. Ten days later, we got a testimonial from Newb_Saibot - and still no actual details. We’re days away from the event and all we’ve gotten is vibes. This is beyond amateur.

They want your money but can’t tell you which charities it’s going to. Their own post says they’ll have updates “in the coming days.” The event starts in two weeks. How do you launch a fundraiser without knowing where the funds go?

Nobody knows who these people are. No roster, no names, no track record. Just a brand new account with a polished logo and a custom stream overlay ready to go. The branding came before the substance. That bothers me.

Instead of transparency, we got a heartfelt testimonial from Newb_Saibot about how great the community is and how they just want to give back. It’s nice. It’s also not an answer to any of the questions that matter - like how donations are collected, who holds the money, and what accountability exists if something goes wrong.

Newb_Saibot's message about the Palico Project

I’m not calling anyone a scammer. Maybe they’re genuine and just jumped the gun. But good intentions don’t mean much when there’s zero accountability attached to them.

Before I’d even consider supporting this, I’d need to see named charities with verification, a clear explanation of how money is handled, and real people willing to put their names on it. That’s not a lot to ask. That’s the bare minimum.

The MH community is generous by nature. I’d hate to see that taken advantage of - even accidentally. Ask your questions before you open your wallet.

Some Free Advice for the Palico Project

If you’re reading this and you’re behind the project - here’s how you fix it:

Make a website. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Throw something up on Wix or Carrd. Give people a single place to find all the information they need. A Twitter thread is not enough for something that involves other people’s money.

Tell us who’s involved. List the streamers participating. Put names and channels out there. Let people verify that real, accountable humans are behind this.

Name the charities. Not “coming soon.” Now. Link to them. Let people confirm they’re legitimate and that they actually have a relationship with you.

Explain how the money works. If I donate through Streamer A, does that money go to their specific charity? Or does everything go into one pot and get split? Who holds the funds in the meantime? What platform handles the transactions? These aren’t gotcha questions - they’re the basics.

Do all of that, and I’ll happily revisit my stance. Until then, I’m out.

And one more thing - all of this should have been done months before you ever announced anything. You build the foundation first, then you go public. You don’t show up out of nowhere with a blank Twitter account, a logo, and a “trust us” attitude two weeks before the event. That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

I might shit on the bad apples in this community, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about the rest of you good souls out there. Quite the opposite, actually.

Happy Hunting.
